Chamber Education Fund
We envision Natchitoches Parish as a Top 10 ranked Louisiana school system where each studetn is an employable citizen ready to meet the technical and skilled job opportunities of the 21st century.
To achieve our vision, we will:
- Establish a fund containing $500,000 to $1 million or more via a campaign seeking three-year financial donations/commitments from the public;
- Distribute these funds for the purchase of scientific laboratories and equipment based on individual school/class sizes over a ten-year period, with estimated annual distributions of between $50,000 and $100,000; and
- Support the five focus areas listed below in all 11 Natchitoches Parish middle schools, as well as in all four Natchitoches Parish high schools, both public and private.
Focus Areas
The Chamber Education Fund focuses on the following five areas. Click on each to learn more about the focus and the progress being made in that area.
1. Project Lead The Way
With a hands-on, real-world curriculum, PLTW is the fastest-growing formal and rigorous "STEM" (science/technology/engineering/math) education program in the country
2. Mathcounts Middle School Competition
MATHCOUNTS provides an opportunity for students to build their math skills to ensure a solid foundation for students' future success in STEM careers.
3. Robotics High School Competition
Students can compete in the "Mini-Urban Challenge", a simulated city maze with a mobile programmable controller, PowerPoint presentation of the team training and taped media interviews.
4. Summer Camps
Out-of-classroom-learning experiences provide a strong foundation for student education excellence, and summer camps are an outstanding way to achieve this.
5. Industry-Based Certifications
Courses of study that provide industry-based certifications upon completion represent a strong link between educational learning and the direct skills required to work in Natchitoches Parish.
