Natchitoches Parish Veterans and Memorial Park

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1962 and the Natchitoches Parish Veterans and Memorial Park Committee have partnered to develop a site in Historic Downtown Natchitoches to honor our service men and women.  This place of honor will provide the community not only an area for private reflection but a small gathering place for events honoring the fallen as well.

The simple design is dignified and creates an intimate feeling for private reflection.  There are several design elements that will be incorporated to create this feeling:

    • A curved monument will be visible from both Church and SecondStreets and will include the names of the fallen highlighted by a cascade of water
    • Five benches in the plaza area will dedicated to the five branches of the military
    • New walls will provide a softened look to the area and provide sound baffling from adjacent businesses
    • The plaza area and landscape design will be suitable for small events and for private reflection.
    • The project design will incorporate eco-friendly and sustainable elements to the extent possible to reduce maintenance and repair costs

The $150,000 in funding for the Natchitoches Parish Veterans and Memorial Park will come from grants public/private donations and contributions of in-kind services and materials.  Contributions are vital in making this project a reality!

The Park committee is headed by a Leadership Committee composed of

    Dr. Bob Gillan, Co-Chair
    Grant Bowden, Co-Chair
    Aaron Johnson, Co-Chair
    Dr. Randy Webb
    Joe Pierson

Monthly meeting are set for the 2nd Thursday at the Downtown City Bank Boardroom at 3:00 with all interested supporters welcome.  This is a parish-wide effort and we encourage all those interested from around Natchitoches Parish to please come learn more and lend your support!

Donations are the only way to assure that the Park Project will become a permanent place to honor local veterans who have died in service to their country as well as all community veterans.  Donations will provide funding for the design, development and construction of the Memorial; as well as purchase materials to construct, operate and maintain the Memorial.
