  • The Legacy Garden Mural Project

Have you heard?  We are painting a Mural on the Legacy Garden Wall!
On Monday, January 17th – in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King -- we will have a day of service to kick off the “Legacy Garden Mural”.  Needless to say, a bit of work is required to prepare for the painting and we'd love your help!
This community building and neighborhood beautification project will be led by Edgar Caño, a Natchitoches resident, NSU Master of Fine Arts graduate, and internationally recognized artist. However, it won't just be Edgar painting... We want neighbors, kids, and grownups alike to help us create a piece of public art that we are all proud of.
The West Natchitoches community will be central in the creation of this mural, engaged both in the subject of the design and in community painting days. Chosen through community input, the words “Planting Seeds of Hope” will be written across the wall, blended into a beautiful scene of farmers, kids, and grown folks alike cultivating the land to produce food.
With all that said, we are asking for support. Specifically, we're seeking local businesses/organizations to sponsor this project, paint donations, financial support for our budget line items, and, of course, many, many hands to help us with our work and painting days!
Mark January 17th in your calendars for our first community work day, and we will be back in your inbox soon with further updates. Please call us at (318) 460-7460 or email info@bdjcenter.org with feedback, suggestions, and other ways you would like to be a part of this special project.
