    Louisiana Energy Camp - July 8th - July 12th

    Energy Camp Louisiana for incoming 10th, 11th and 12th grade students from Natchitoches, Red River and DeSoto parishes will take place on the Northwestern State University campus July 8-12. The cost is $25 with need-based scholarships available. Energy Camp is designed to teach high school students about the different types of energy, energy conservation and efficiency and energy-related careers. During the camp, students will participate in hands-on experiments, energy discussions, interactive computer games and compete for prizes for best in class team efforts.

    NASA engineer and Northwestern State alum Jason Dugas will speak to students during Energy camp. Dugas is an electronics engineer who specializes in manned space flights. Dugas began his career with the NASA Johnson Space Center in 2001 as a specialist in spacecraft power system design and analysis. He has led numerous advanced development projects, including an apparatus used for the wireless transmission of electrical power, a prototype battery-powered lunar rover and the electrical power system used on the Morpheus lander. He is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Engineering Technology at Northwestern State.

    Energy Camp Louisiana partners are Shell, the Consortium for Education, Research and Technology (CERT) of North Louisiana, Northwestern State, Bossier Parish Community College and Southern University at Shreveport. The Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce and local business and industry supported the Northwestern State session. For more information, call (318) 795-2485.

    Math Explorers' Day Camp (June 24-28) hosted by LSMSA is an opportunity for Natchitoches Parish middle school students to spend a week involved in hands-on and team learning experiences that build math skills as well as an understanding of math in the "real world." Registration is currently open and space is limited.
