Proceeds will fund the restoration of
Melrose Plantation’s African House.
2:00 pm Lecture: Secrets of the African House Murals: Art Shiver & Thomas Whitehead,
Co-authors of “Clementine Hunter: The African House Murals”. An hour-long presentation
discussing the murals painted by Clementine Hunter in the summer of 1955.
Location: 750 Second St. Open to the public.
5:00 pm VIP Reception: At the Museum with an exclusive first look at the conserved murals;
and an opportunity for early bids at the Silent Auction; followed by Dinner at Maglieaux’s on
the Cane. This event will honor the late Theodosia Murphy Nolan and the Nolan Foundation,
the generous donors who funded the mural conservation; as well as the National Trust for
Historic Preservation in designating the African House as a National Treasure.
