    Description:

    Position Summary

    Acts as receptionist to outpatients and physicians coming into the department. Relieves the technologists of such clerical duties as typing forms, filing, logging daily patient work, and mailing of reports and disposition of films when required by physicians or insurance companies. Assists in transporting patients by wheelchair or gurney to and from the Radiology Department, as needed. Assists in positioning patients for the exams alongside a licensed Rad Tech. Participates in CQI activities. 

    Primary Responsibilities

    1. Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.

    2. Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.

    3. Assesses, evaluates and informs physician of changes in patient’s condition during an exam.

    4. Completes all work before clocking out and leaving. This includes checking with nurses’ stations.

    5. Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.

    6. Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.

    7. Understands contraindications and potential hazards of different exams.

    8. Interacts professionally with patient/family.

    9. Assists in gathering information for the preparation of reports, patient tests and billing.

    10. Schedules procedures and exams in computer system.

    11. Operates computer order entry system.

    12. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer’s instruction.

    13. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general population.

    14. Must be acquainted with local fire and safety regulations.

    15. Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments.

    Competencies

    1. Basic computer knowledge.
    2. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
    3. Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. 
    4. Possesses a high level of knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
    5. Knowledgeable  of most major CAT Scan equipment manufacturer’s hardware and software (GE, Siemens, Picker).
    6. Ability to use appropriate discretion in handling confidential information and materials.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    None.

    Requirements:

    1. Bachelor of Science degree is preferred, but not required. 

    2. Graduation from an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology required.

    3. Current BCLS certification required.
