    This position is a 1-year, full-time commitment. You will be an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer In Service To America). AmeriCorps VISTA is a federal program with the mission of ending poverty in our country. VISTA Members are assigned to non-profits across the country to build capacity and sustainability of those organizations. This assignment is with the Ben D. Johnson Educational Center, 501 (c) 3 nonprofit located in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

    VISTAs sign up for a full year of service, working full time for their nonprofit service site. Professional experience is not necessary but highly valued. Training is provided for all tasks. AmeriCorps

    • Relocation assistance The Recruitment Coordinator VISTA will help build the capacity of the center by developing a plan and standardized systems for student recruitment. VISTA will also identify and create partnerships with companies to support the Legacy Youth Workforce Development (LYWD) Students.

    Tasks will include:
    • Work with Executive Director and Program Staff to develop relationships with community members and businesses to recruit for the Legacy Youth Workforce Development Program.
    • Develop a list of sources from which to recruit students.
    • Develop relationships with groups or organizations to recruit students ages 17 to 24.
    • Identify youth services in the area to partner with.
    • Develop a mentorship program.
    • Establish a data collection system to evaluate progress on all recruiting efforts.
    • Develop a list of companies, restaurants, schools, and businesses to partner with that includes contact person, addresses, email, and phone numbers.
    • Establish relationships with individuals to host externships, present to students in the classroom and/or become mentors to students.
    • Review current partnerships and develop a comprehensive list of current partners and the agreements made to build upon.
    • Maintain current partnerships by developing a system to acknowledge contributions and communicate regularly.
    • Participate in community events to recruit volunteers and develop partnerships.
    • Develop a calendar of community events, identify appropriate events for the BDJ Center to participate in and attend at least 6 outreach events throughout the year.
    • Create procedures for developing new partnerships for sustainability.
