Red River Waterway Commission Completes Construction of New Amenities at Grand Ecore Recreation Area and RV Park

The Red River Waterway Commission is excited to announce new improvements to the Grand Ecore Recreation Area and RV Park located in Natchitoches, LA. The recreation area is located off LA Hwy-6, at 1071 Tauzin Island Road.

The Grand Ecore Recreation area was first developed in 2001 and consists of a 3-lane boat launch with 100 paved parking spaces, restrooms, and a 300-foot floating dock with 8 boat slips.

In 2017, the Commission opened the Grand Ecore RV Park adjacent to the recreation area with 59 full hook-up sites, playgrounds, a washhouse, and an activity center. The park is situated in a picturesque pecan orchard, creating a serene escape just outside of town. “The feedback we received from campers indicated they wished to see more amenities in the park such as water features and community areas for group gatherings. We feel we have accomplished that through this project while preserving the natural beauty of the campground,” said Commissioner James Maxey.

A new 2.5-mile, multi-use, asphalt trail will be available to the public. The trail route offers a scenic path where users can enjoy nature without venturing too far from home. “This beautiful property was hidden from the public’s eye. With the addition of this trail, everyone in the community can enjoy the scenery the property has to offer while escaping everyday life” said Commissioner Paul Fleming. The trail goes by a 10-acre lake known as “The Blue Hole” and offers benches, swings, overlooks with a view of the river, and all-weather workout stations for users to enjoy.

This project also includes additions to the RV Park. Four propane fire pits have been built near the activity center under a canopy of pecan trees. “We wanted to ensure that our RV Park guests have high-quality amenities that can be enjoyed year around,” said Commissioner Charles Greer. The other features that have been added to the RV Park include a state-of-the-art splash pad and swimming pool. The splash pad has multiple spray features for kids of all ages. The pool deck is fully furnished with lounge chairs, tables, and umbrellas.

The new features to the Recreation Area and RV Park are expected to open on May 22nd, 2024. “This project fulfills the mission of the RRWC to promote economic and recreational development on the Red River,” said Executive Director Colin Brown.
