Successful Inaugural Work Natchitoches Summit Connects Job Seekers and Employers in Natchitoches

Work Natchitoches Summit Brings Together Employers, Students, and Community for Economic Growth

Natchitoches, LA, May 8, 2023:  The inaugural Work Natchitoches Summit held on April 21, 2023, was a resounding success, with over 40 employers and 450 participants in attendance. The event, organized by the Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce and the Natchitoches Economic Development Alliance (NEDA) together with a number of education and workforce partners throughout the region, brought together employers, students from 8th, 11th, and 12th grades, college students, and members of the public for a day of networking, learning, and employment opportunities.

The Work Natchitoches Summit provided a unique platform for employers to connect with a diverse talent pool in our parish. With over 40 employers representing various industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, education, retail, and more, the job fair provided a wide range of opportunities for job seekers of all backgrounds and experience levels. Employers were able to showcase their companies and interact with potential candidates, while job seekers had the chance to learn about different career paths, submit resumes, and participate in on-site interviews.

The event also catered to students from local schools, including 8th, 11th, and 12th graders and college students. The Work Natchitoches Summit aimed to foster early career awareness and provide students with a glimpse into the local job market, helping them make informed decisions about their future career paths. Students had the opportunity to engage with employers, learn about different industries, and gain insights into the skills and qualifications required for various careers.

Two unique features made the Work Natchitoches Summit stand out from other more traditional job fairs. The Power Skills Seminar showcased various soft skills and life skills to youth and young adults in attendance, such as the ways to make a great first impression, showing up to work on time, and ways to responsibly manage personal finances once employed. The Pathway Seminar offered specific highlights of the top three industries in Natchitoches Parish by employment healthcare, manufacturing, and hospitality/tourism.

“It was very rewarding to see the grand vision and months of hard work by our steering committee culminate in such a successful first Summit,” said Laura Lyles, President of the Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce and Executive Director of the Natchitoches Economic Development Alliance. “We were thrilled to hear a lot of positive feedback from students, educators, and participating employers, and we believe we’ve created valuable connections and opportunities for our community.”

According to employers surveyed, 372 direct connections were made to students and job seekers through this event. The success of the first Work Natchitoches Summit has set the stage for future editions of the event. The Chamber & NEDA plan to make it an annual event, bringing together even more employers, students, and members of the community to foster economic growth and development in our area.
