  • Resident Advisor

    Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts seeks applicants for Resident Advisor

    • Housing and meal plan provided.
    • Experience is not required. On the job training will be provided.

    The primary duty of the Resident Assistant (RA) is to assist the Student Life Advisor as they work to create and maintain a positive living/learning environment for the students in their care. Each RA works independently with his/her floor of students (approximately 36 students) and collectively with the other staff to ensure that student care, development, and safety needs are met.

    Specific responsibilities include assisting the SLA with supervising the student sign-out process, conducting nightly room checks to assure that all students are accounted for in the building, conducting weekly room inspection, transporting students as needed (in school vehicles), enforcing policies, and planning and implementing social and educational programming.

    Additional on-the-job training, including CPR/AED and first aid training, will be provided.

    This is a part-time, live-in position and includes an apartment for the duration of the contract and a meal plan when students are on campus. Resident Assistants are required to live in the residence hall and to be on-site for scheduled shifts and on-call overnight responsibilities, except on days off.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Currently enrolled as a graduate student or a Junior or Senior in college
    • Valid Driver’s License and ability to provide local and out-of-town transportation for students
    • Ability to complete a school provided CPR/AED course as well as basic first aid
    • Ability to quickly learn and fairly enforce policy
    • Ability to quickly learn basic word processing, email and other new systems as needed
    • Ability to work with diverse groups
    • High level of discretion with sensitive information
    • Reasonable flexibility relative to schedule
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Ability to develop rapport and provide supervision and support for high school students

    Preferred Qualification:
    • Ability to obtain chauffeur’s license within one month of hire
    • Proficiency with the full suite of Microsoft and Google tools
    • Prior experience working with teenagers/young adults
