    LSMSA seeks applicants for Full-Time Coordinator of Student Academic Support

    Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) seeks applications for a full-time Coordinator of Student Academic Support to serve its diverse student population. This position includes state supported benefits including retirement, health, and life insurance.

    The ideal candidate will have experience working effectively with BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and LGBTQIA+ (lebsian, gay, bisexual, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual) communities and students. 

    Core functions include:

    • ​Provide academic support for all students, ranging from general school-wide programs to individual student remediation
    • Engage in appropriate exchange of information about student needs and work closely with faculty, staff, and parents to plan and provide support services for students
    • Coordinate, manage and elevate the Supervised Study Program, Supplemental Instruction, and the Peer Assistance Program
    • Produce and document weekly grade and student concern reports as well as monthly grade assessments and communicate findings with faculty, staff, students, and parents in a timely manner
    • Supervise and mentor the Student Support Services Intern and oversee the day-to-day functions of the Student Support Center
    •  Develop and present on various topics for faculty, staff, students, and parents
    • Participate in New Student Orientation, Summer Programs, and Expanded Orientation in consultation with the Director of Academic Affairs, the EXCEL Director (s), and the Director of Student Support Services
    • Serve as a test administrator for the PSAT, ACT, LEAP, and/or AP exams
    • Work with the Registrar to further develop advising services for Dual Enrollment and AGS partnerships as well as assist with student's summer coursework as needed
    • Assist with departmental functions as necessary
    Required Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or related field
    • Knowledge of adolescent development, cultural competencies, contemporary issues facing adolescents, and characteristics of gifted students
    • Knowledge of 504 guidelines and students with disabilities
    • Proficiency with Microsoft 365
    • Willingness to work in the late afternoon and evenings
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • High level of discretion with sensitive information
    • Ability to work independently as part of a team
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience in academic counseling or academic advising in a comparable environment 
    • Supervisory experience
    • Experience in program coordination and development
